Change is Pain

Technically, any growth in the church or in the leader equals change. You cannot grow unless you change, therefore all physical growth, social growth, mental growth or spiritual growth involves a change in life. The opposite, however, is not true; all change is not growth. Many people do not change things for the better, but for the worse. John Maxwell, former pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church, has noted, ‘All change does not represent progress, but if we do not change there will be no progress.’

Change, however, is progress along with growth. Rick Warren, pastor of Saddlebook Church, Mission Viejo, California, explained recently in a sermon titled “Why People Fight Change”: “All growth is change, all change is loss, all loss is pain.”
